San Jose ,CA :One killed when station wagon crashes into tree, bursts into flames off Highway 101 on Friday ,june 12th 2015
A driver was killed early Friday after a car crashed into a tree and was engulfed by fire off Highway 101 in South San Jose, according to the California Highway Patrol.
A 1999 Subaru station wagon was northbound approaching Blossom Hill Road around 1:55 a.m. when, for a reason under investigation, it veered into the right road shoulder, went through some brush and crashed head-on into a tree.
The vehicle then caught fire and was burned when firefighters and emergency crews arrived. After the fire was extinguished, they found a single occupant in the driver's seat, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officer Amy Tritenbach, of the Hollister-Gilroy CHP field office, said any identifying information was not immediately available because the victim was burned beyond recognition by the fire that left sparse remnants of the vehicle.
An initial investigation determined that no other vehicles were involved and that the condition of the crash site made it impossible to immediately determine whether drugs or alcohol were a factor in the collision.
