One person died in a car crash on Plough Boulevard near Winchester Road.

The crash happened in a construction zone.

According to police, a gold Dodge Ram pickup truck was driving down Plough Boulevard when it hit a parked white International tractor trailer construction vehicle. Workers were repairing damage to a guardrail.

The truck's driver is in critical condition at the hospital. The truck's passenger died on the scene.

"A lot of people are being hurt and it needs to stop," driver Dhibron Clower said.

Police said they are still investigating the accident and are unsure what caused the accident.

"We don't know what caused the crash, and everything remains under investigation at this point," Major Eddie Bass, Memphis Police Department, said.

Generally speaking, many Memphis drivers said they know how dangerous people drive in construction zones.

"People be driving crazy, no turning signals, texting, talking on the phone," driver Angelic Ryan said.

None of the workers were injured.

This is not the first deadly crash in a construction zone in our area.

In June 2013, a family of three from Gosnell, Arkansas died when their SUV slammed into a semi-truck in a construction zone in Marion. That same year, in April, two construction workers died when a pick-up truck ran into them.

In November 2014, two people died in a fiery crash in West Memphis in a construction zone.

Police are urging drivers to be careful and pay attention, especially in construction zones.

"I love my little car, so I don't want to mess my car up," driver Angelic Ryan said.

Police have not yet released the names of the driver or passenger involved in the crash.

The crash serves as a good reminder while driving, to be careful and take your time in construction zones.
