Martinsville, VA : Man suffers medical emergency while driving; dies after crash in Pittsylvania County on Wednesday afternoon, February 22, 2017

Virginia State Police are investigating a fatal vehicle crash that took place Wednesday afternoon in Pittsylvania County.

Robert Louis Williams, 60, of Lawrenceville was driving a 2003 Ford Ranger south on U.S. 29, according to a Virginia State Police news release.

The crash occurred at 5:30 p.m., when troopers believe Williams had a medical emergency while driving.

“The vehicle ran off the left side of the roadway and came to rest in the median,” the release stated.

Williams was wearing his seatbelt and was transported to Danville Regional Medical Center, where he died.

Troopers are still investigating the crash.
