The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash that occurred Tuesday in the Dagsboro area.
The preliminary investigation has determined the incident occurred at around 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 7, as a 31-year-old Millsboro man was operating a 2008 Honda CRF 450 dirt bike northbound on the southbound shoulder of Dupont Boulevard (Route 113), approaching the exit driveway of Del-One Federal Credit Union. At the same time, a 1994 Buick Century, operated by a 46-year-old female from Frankford, was exiting the Del-One FCU parking lot, preparing to merge into the southbound travel lanes.
As the Buick was exiting, the Honda approached on the shoulder at a high rate of speed. In an effort to avoid the collision, the driver of the Honda attempted to lay the bike down but was unable to avoid a collision. The dirt bike came to rest off of the west side of the roadway while the operator came to rest in the southbound right lane.
