Joplin, MO : One driver injured in two-car accident in Jasper County on Thursday, August 18, 2016

A two-car accident at 11:38 a.m. Thursday in Jasper County left one man with moderate injuries, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Billy Lyerla, 64, of Galena, Kansas, was traveling west on Belle Center Road, 6 miles west of Joplin, when he crossed the centerline and his vehicle struck the rear of another westbound vehicle, the patrol said.

The impact caused both vehicles to go off the left side of the road and into a ditch. Lyerla's vehicle continued into a field.

The driver of the other vehicle, Troy Pierson, 36, of Joplin, was uninjured, but Lyerla was taken to Mercy Hospital Joplin with moderate injuries, the patrol said.
