Tech ROTC cadet dies in car accident near Lubbock Texas
A fatal car accident over the weekend killed Texas Tech University Air Force ROTC cadet Spencer LaBrie.The accident happened at the intersection of South 14th and South Danville Drive in Abilene early Saturday morning.
According to the Abilene Police Department, LaBrie, 19, and Jillian Thomas, 27, were pronounced dead at Hendrick Medical Center shortly after 2 a.m. on Saturday.
An investigation revealed that LaBrie failed to stop for a red flashing traffic signal and was hit by 35-year-old Tiffany Haynes. Haynes had the right-of-way.
Haynes suffered from minor, non-life threatening injuries and was not transported to a hospital.
LaBrie was a sophomore at Texas Tech University and was on an ROTC scholarship. He planned to be an Air Force pilot.Labrie was a graduate from Wylie High School and was also a renowned baseball player and basketball player.
Thomas graduated from Haskell High School and attended Angelo State University. She completed her bachelor's and master's degrees in speech pathology at Abilene Christian University.
