REED CITY, MI : Four people were injured and one was airlifted after a four-vehicle crash on Monday, August 7, 2017
Four people were injured and one was airlifted after a four-vehicle crash Sunday on M-115 near 19 Mile Road.
Osceola County Sheriff deputies were dispatched at 3:50 p.m. Aug. 6 to the scene in Highland Township in Osceola County. Upon arrival, deputies assisted EMS and fire/rescue personnel treating the injured people. Three people were transported to the hospital by Osceola County and Missaukee County EMS while the fourth was taken from the scene by Aeromed.
Because the incident was only a personal injury crash, Osceola County Undersheriff Justin Halladay said the names of those involved would not be released. He also said he had no update on their status.
Information gathered at the scene indicated several vehicles were stopped on eastbound M-115 behind a vehicle turning left onto 19 Mile Road. A Toyota Prius, which also was traveling eastbound on M-115, failed to stop for the vehicles and rear-ended a stopped Toyota SUV.
The initial impact caused the Toyota SUV to hit the vehicle in front of it and then continue into the westbound lane of M-115 resulting in a head-on collision between the SUV and another vehicle.
All occupants were wearing safety belts and alcohol does not appear to be a factor, police said. The crash remains under investigation. The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office also was assisted by Marion Fire/Rescue, Evart Police Department, and the Michigan State Police.
