El Paso, TX : El Pasoan killed in pedestrian accident in Las Cruces on Saturday September 3 2016

A 26-year-old El Paso man was killed in a pedestrian fatal accident early Saturday morning in Las Cruces, the New Mexico State Police reported.

A male pedestrian, later identified as Eric Olvera of El Paso, was walking across the westbound lanes of Interstate 10 near mile marker 143 at about 3:30 a.m. Saturday when a Volkswagen struck him, police said.

Olvera sustained fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the passenger car was not injured.

Alcohol was not believed to have been a factor. The incident remains under investigation.
