Toledo, OH : Oregon woman granted early release from prison for fatal crash on Tuesday, 10th April 2018
An Oregon woman who was intoxicated when she struck and killed a motorcyclist in 2015 was granted an early release from prison Tuesday.
Melissa Madson, 28, of the 2600 block of Eastvale Avenue served 19 months of a 48-month prison sentence after she pleaded guilty in 2016 to aggravated vehicular homicide for the June 26, 2015, death of Mark Grover, 60, of Sylvania.
After granting her release, Lucas County Common Pleas Judge Ian English placed Madson on community control for four years and ordered her to first serve 30 days in the Lucas County Work Release Program followed by six months on electronic monitoring. She also is to complete 200 hours of community service during her term of probation.
“You have served a prison term, but you still haven't made up for the life you took,” Judge English said.
He continued: “You have an opportunity to be heard and to speak and maybe prevent the next husband or son or daughter or mother from being taken from us by a drunk driver.”
Madson was westbound on West Laskey Road just before 2 a.m. when she turned left onto Adella Street and struck Mr. Grover's eastbound motorcycle. She again apologized in court to his widow and vowed to never drink and drive again.
