Crystal Lake,IL : Crystal Lake man killed in crash on April, Friday 6th 2018
Jacob Rokusek would buy a fellow student lunch if they didn’t have any money. He’d take the shirt off his back for them. He made kids laugh at First United Methodist Church as a nursery worker for the past six years.
He was a Crystal Lake South High School graduate in 2016.
But his father, David Rokusek, said Jacob, 20, had trouble dealing with certain situations, suffering from anxiety and depression.
Around 8:15 p.m. Friday, a Chevrolet was traveling west on East Main Street in unincorporated Algonquin Township, crested a hill and struck Rokusek, who was lying in the roadway, according to the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office.
An autopsy Tuesday revealed he died from blunt trauma to the head and chest, McHenry County Coroner Anne Majewski said.
“When we look at his actions at the time and the day, we believe this was not a premeditated suicide,” David said. “It was in the moment and not realizing the lasting effects of his actions. We’ll never be able to see what Jacob could have done.”
David said he couldn’t pick a favorite memory with Jacob, but instead reflected on all the times spent together, such as dirt biking at Jacob’s grandparents house.
Jacob enjoyed wake boarding, playing hockey, hiking and playing music, David said, adding he was one of those kids who could pick up any instrument and start playing it.
“He was a very caring person, fun, loving and very outgoing,” David said. “He always took care of other people more than himself.”
A funeral service will be held Sunday, April 15, at First United Methodist Church, 236 W. Crystal Lake Ave., Crystal Lake. Visitation begins at 2 p.m. and services start at 3:30 p.m.
Help for people feeling overwhelmed can be found 24 hours a day at the McHenry County Crisis Line at 800-892-8900.
