At approximately 1:26 a.m. on Thursday, the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO), Grayson County EMS, and Caneyville Volunteer Fire Department responded to the crash at the intersection of South Main Street and Morgantown Street in Caneyville.
According to an accident report filed by GCSO Deputy Jeff Kelsey, leading up to the accident, a 1993 Cadillac DeVille was travelling north on South Main Street in Caneyville.
The Cadillac lost control after running off the roadway and hitting an embankment, after which it continued to travel north and began to roll, the report states.
The Cadillac then struck a brick wall and a mailbox in the front yard of 205 South Main St., a mailbox belonging to 204 South Main St., the mailbox for 203 South Main St, a porch to an old store at 201 South Main St., and the street sign at the intersection of Morgantown Road and South Main Street, according to the report.
Kelsey reported that the Cadillac appeared to have rolled several times while damaging property before coming to a rest at the intersection of Morgantown Road and South Main Street on all four tires.
The driver, 30-year-old Christopher L. McCoy, of Beaver Dam, KY, and passenger, 32-year-old Holly H. McCoy, of Hartford, KY, were trapped in the vehicle when emergency personnel arrived on the scene, the report states.
Caneyville Volunteer Fire Department (CVFD) and Grayson County EMS personnel extracted the driver and passenger from the vehicle, according to the report.
CVFD personnel stated they had to remove the couple’s seat belts, and Kelsey observed that the driver’s side air bag had deployed; however, he writes in the report that there did not appear to be a passenger side air bag.
Both Christopher and Holly McCoy suffered multiple injuries in the crash and were airlifted by emergency helicopter to University of Louisville Hospital.
On Tuesday morning, March 14, Grayson County Sheriff Norman Chaffins said he had, on Monday, March 13, received the call that Holly McCoy had succumbed to her injuries and passed away.
The status of Christopher McCoy was unknown as of press time on Tuesday.
The accident report states that human factors causing the accident were drug involvement, exceeding the speed limit, and not having proper control of the vehicle.
Chaffins said on Tuesday a criminal investigation into the accident is ongoing.
The Cadillac was removed from the scene of the crash by Sonny’s Wrecker Service.
