Salt Lake City, UT : Utah troopers nearly hit by vehicle that sideswiped highway patrol car on interstate 15 on Saturday afternoon September 20th 2014
Authorities say one Utah Highway Patrol trooper jumped over a retaining wall to escape serious injury when a speeding vehicle driven by a man who said he was going through heroin withdrawal sideswiped a patrol vehicle at an Interstate 15 crash scene.
Another trooper was in the vehicle that was hit, but wasn't hurt.
Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. David Moreno tells that troopers were investigating an accident Saturday afternoon when a vehicle sped toward them in the right emergency lane, swerved, hit several cone markers and sideswiped the parked patrol vehicle.
Moreno says it was lucky the trooper who jumped the wall saw the vehicle coming.
Moreno and other troopers followed and arrested the male driver, who was taken to a hospital for medical treatment.
