Shrewsbury, MA : 2 injured in school bus collision on Route 140 Wednesday afternoon, October 5, 2016
Shrewsbury, Massachusetts
Two people were injured when a Jeep crashed into a small school bus on Route 140 Wednesday afternoon.
Police and school officials said none of the seven students on board the small YMCA bus were hurt. Police said the driver of the Jeep and the driver of the school bus both went to a local hospital to be treated for injuries that were not life-threatening. The students were from the Paton School and were on the way to an after-school program at the YMCA, according to a statement from Superintendent Joseph M. Sawyer.
Police said that according to a preliminary investigation, around 3:16 p.m. a 1999 Jeep Cherokee was being driven north on Route 140 when the driver tried to pass a stopped vehicle. The Jeep crossed into the southbound lane and collided with the 2008 Chevrolet van serving as a school bus. The van had two adults and the seven students on board. Route 140 was closed while the police crash reconstruction unit investigated.
Mr. Sawyer, in his statement, said there was a delay to busing from the school because of the crash, and he thanked police and school faculty and staff for "their caring and professional response to the situation."
