Eau Claire, WI : Open house on crash-prone Highway 29 intersection will be Tuesday October 25 2016

Changes to a Highway 29 intersection in the Chippewa County town of Wheaton will be the subject of a Tuesday evening open house meeting.
The general public is invited to the informal meeting, which will be 5 to 6:30 p.m. at Wheaton Town Hall, 4975 Highway T, to examine and discuss plans to improve safety at the 40th Street intersection.
The changes are intended to address concerns of numerous traffic crashes that have occurred at the intersection, according to a state Department of Transportation news release.
The DOT’s proposed redesign would prevent motorists on 40th Street from crossing Highway 29 or making left turns to get onto it.
Motorists would still be able to turn from Highway 29 onto 40th Street. The project plan includes longer left turn lanes on the highway, the addition of concrete islands, more lighting and signs.
