Charlottesville, VA : W.Va. man identified as motorcyclist killed in I-64 crash on Wednesday, 28th September 2016
Charlottesville, Virginia
Virginia State Police identified Robert C. Pollet Jr. on Friday as the West Virginia man who died after he was thrown from his motorcycle in Fluvanna County early Wednesday morning.
At about 3:40 a.m. Wednesday, a tractor trailer was traveling east on Interstate 64 in Fluvanna County when it struck a 1994 Harley-Davidson motorcycle near mile marker 128. Pollet, 55, was thrown from the bike and died at the scene, according to police.
The driver of the tractor-trailer, an adult male from Minnesota, was not injured in the crash. He told police he initially thought he had struck a pile of debris and said the motorcycle was hard to see in the patchy fog and heavy rain.
Police also said the motorcycle’s taillights were dim due to the age of the motorcycle and were partially obscured by the load strapped to the rear of the bike. Pollet also was wearing dark clothing, police said.
