Gastonia, N.C : Pedestrian dies after being hit by van in Gastonia on Tuesday evening, January 6, 2015

A woman died after she was hit by a car in Gastonia on Tuesday evening, according to officials.

Witnesses told police that a woman, later identified as 54-year-old Thelma Jean Featherstone, was walking on East Hudson Boulevard around 6 p.m. when she was hit by a 2003 Ford van, driven by Carolyn Postell.

Witnesses said a vehicle in front of the van was able to avoid hitting Featherstone. Police say the roadway was dimly lit at the time of the collision.

EMS took Featherstone to Caromount Regional Medical Center where officials say she died from her injuries.

Gastonia Police say no charges will be filed.
