Fort Lauderdale, FL : Miami Beach man dead after crash on Alligator Alley Saturday, February 11, 2017

A 65-year-old Miami Beach man was killed Saturday when the car he was driving veered off Interstate 75 and struck a pillar of an overpass, authorities said.

John Nick Lazos was pronounced dead at the scene of the 8:59 p.m. crash on eastbound I-75 at Snake Road, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. He was driving a 2017 Nissan Altima. That stretch of I-75, which crosses the Everglades from Broward County to Collier County, is named Alligator Alley.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
