Norwalk,CT : Norwalk man killed in Bronx crash on August, Sunday 27th 2017

A Norwalk man has died and another has been arrested on drunken driving and vehicular manslaughter charges after a crash on Interstate 95 in the Bronx Sunday night.
Abe Prior, 30, of Norwalk, died after the crash in which New York City police say the Nissan SUV he was riding in struck the back of parked backhoe along the Bruckner Expressway.
The driver of the SUV, who police identified as Jorge Viteri, 30, of Windsor Place, Norwalk, was charged with vehicular manslaughter, assault, criminal negligence, driving under the influence and refusal to submit to a breath test.
The crash occurred on the northbound Bruckner near Exit 7C around 6:50 p.m. Police said that there were three passengers in the SUV and that Prior was riding in the back seat.
According to police, Viteri lost control of the vehicle as he attempted to change lanes not far from Country Club Road. The SUV then hit a backhoe that was parked at a construction site.
All four occupants of the vehicle were taken to Jacoby Medical Center in the Bronx, where Prior was pronounced dead. The condition of Viteri and the two other passengers was not available from the NYPD.
A gofundme page has been set up in Prior’s memory, to help care for his two children, and assist in defraying funeral expenses.
The page, which was set up by Prior’s sister, said “Prior and his fiance Olga Moises were involved in a tragic car accident on I-95. Abe “Boobie” did not survive the crash. Olga is in stable condition, who is now however left to parent their two children Amaya and Adrian.”
“‘Boobie’ had a heart of gold and helped anyone who crossed his path in life. He was a great father, friend, son, brother, uncle, sportsman, and colleague. God called home his gift to the world,” she wrote.
This is the second time Prior’s family has been struck by tragedy.
In 2004, a Bridgeport man was sentenced to 50 years in prison for the Sept. 12, 2003, sexual assault and homicide of Prior’s 2-year-old sister, Tiava Higgs.
Eric White, who was the child’s godfather, pleaded guilty in Bridgeport Superior Court to felony murder and was sentenced to 50 years in prison. Now 43, he is to be released in October 2053.
“One day you better ask God to forgive you for what you have done,” Tiava's (and Prior’s) mother, Terano Prior, of Norwalk, said to the man at a 2004 court hearing. "You came into my house and tore my family apart."
On Monday morning Prior’s mother posted the following on her Facebook page:
“Please pray for my family My best friend Abe Prior has taken his wings. Boobie take care of Tiava until Mommy get there.”
