NEW CANTON, IL : Pike County man dies in logging accident on July, Saturday 15th 2017

A Pleasant Hill man was pronounced dead Saturday after a logging accident.

The Pike County Sheriff's Department reports that it was called at 4:06 p.m., along with an ambulance, to 236th Avenue south of New Canton.

Michael P. Winchell, 40, Pleasant Hill, was pronounced dead at the scene. His death was due to injures sustained when a log skidder fell on him. Others on the scene pulled Winchell out before emergency responders arrived.

Assisting at the scene were the New Canton Fire Department, the Hull-Kinderhook Fire Department, the Barry Fire Department, the Pike County Ambulance Service and the Pike County Coroner's Office.
