Federal Way, WA : Two Pierce County women struck, killed by suspected drunken driver on Interstate 5 in Federal Way early Thursday, December 17, 2015

Two women were killed in Federal Way early Thursday after a suspected drunken driver slammed into the back of their disabled car, which was stopped on Interstate 5.

Their car had broken down in a northbound lane near South 304th Street so the women put on the car’s hazard lights and waited for the Washington State Patrol to arrive to help.

Before that happened, a car driven by a 29-year-old Seattle woman crashed into the back of the women’s car about 1:40 a.m., killing both women.

The driver was a 31-year-old Tacoma woman; the passenger was a 51-year-old Puyallup woman. Neither has been identified.

The other driver was taken to St. Francis Hospital in Federal Way with serious injuries. She was later booked into King County Jail.

Troopers believe drugs or alcohol were involved in the crash.
