Goshen, IN : Illinois teen killed in LaGrange County crash on May, Thursday, 11th 2017
An 18-year-old Midlothian, Illinois, woman was killed Thursday morning in a collision with a tractor-trailer in LaGrange County.
Nicole S. Bartlett was driving a 2005 Hyundai passenger car east on C.R. 600 South at the intersection of Ind. 5 around 6:30 a.m, according to a LaGrange County police report. Police said Bartlett disregarded a stop sign and failed to yield the right-of-way to a tractor-trailer that was traveling north on Ind. 5 at the same location.
The front of the tractor-trailer collided with the passenger side of Bartlett’s Hyundai. She was pronounced dead at the scene from her injuries.
The driver of the tractor-trailer, Phillip L. Burton, 74, Cromwell, was treated at the scene and released by Parkview medics with no injuries.
Attempted armed robbery
Police arrested a 21-year-old Goshen man and a juvenile Wednesday for allegedly conducting an attempted armed robbery outside Kroger.
Goshen police officers received a report of a fight at the store, 209 Chicago Ave., around 1 p.m. After arriving at the scene, officers determined the fight was actually an attempted armed robbery in which Carlos Gonzales, 21, 84 Roxbury Park, Goshen, and a 16-year-old juvenile attempted to rob a 18-year-old Goshen man.
Gonzales was arrested on preliminary charges of armed robbery, theft and possession of a handgun without a permit and booked into the Elkhart County jail where he is being held without bond. The juvenile was also arrested and transported to the juvenile detention facility on preliminary charges of intimidation, theft and possession of a handgun without a permit.
Police Spokewoman Tina Kingsbury said the firearm was recovered at the scene and no injuries were reported as a result of the incident. The 18-year-old man’s name was not given.
