Rolling Prairie, IN : Goshen woman, 2 passengers killed in LaPorte County crash on Friday morning, March 17, 2017
A Goshen woman was one of three people killed in a violent crash in LaPorte County on Friday morning.
Around 7 a.m., 22-year-old Judith Peachey of Goshen was driving a 2008 Pontiac G6 west on U.S. 20 near North C.R. 300E a mile west of Rolling Prairie when she lost control. Her car slid out of control into the path of a 1992 Volvo semi truck, which was traveling eastbound on U.S. 20, according to the LaPorte County Sheriff's Department.
The semi slammed into the passenger side of the Pontiac. Peachey and her two passengers – Rosalie Koehn, whose age wasn't immediately known, and 17-year-old Lani Nace, both of Greensburg, Kansas – all died at the scene, police said.
The semi driver, 41-year-old Joseph Green of Mishawaka, was not injured.
The sheriff's department ruled out drugs and alcohol as factors in the accident. Investigators noted the roadway was covered in ice and slush when the accident occurred, as some light freezing rain and sleet were falling with temperatures near freezing. However, police were still investigating exactly what caused Peachey to lose control of the Pontiac.
Friday's crash happened exactly two months after another triple-fatal accident on the same stretch of U.S. 20 claimed the life of another Goshen woman. Catrina Bontrager, 30, was one of three people killed on Jan. 17 when a Buick crossed the center line into the path of an oncoming Hyundai sedan about three miles west at U.S. 20 and Fail Road.
