A Willoughby woman is dead after she was ejected from her car in single-vehicle crash Friday, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Officials identified the woman as 52-year-old Heidi J. Springer, who was driving about 7:39 p.m. in the express lane of Interstate 271 northbound when she drifted into the right lane.
Officials said she overcorrected, causing her gray 2005 BMW X5 to strike a median barrier near milepost 30 and overturn. The woman was ejected from her vehicle. Investigators said she was not wearing a seat belt.
EMS responders took Springer to University Hospitals Ahuja Medical Center. She was then transported to MetroHealth Medical Center where she died from her injuries.
Police are investigating what caused Springer to drive off the road. This marks the 10th fatal crash this year in Cuyahoga County, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
