A 47-year-old Greenville man was killed Wednesday when the Volvo SUV he was driving was struck head-on by a Jeep Cherokee on River Road near Bear Hole Road, the N.C. Highway Patrol has confirmed.
Daniel Byron Rains of Greenville died at the scene. A passenger in the Volvo, identified as Jeffrey William Hardy of Mississippi, was injured and taken to CarolinaEast Medical Center in New Bern for treatment.
The driver of the Jeep, identified as Carl Angelo Midgette, no age or hometown available, was taken to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville for treatment.
Troopers said the incident occurred around 2:23 p.m. on the rural, two-lane road when the soundbound Jeep Cherokee crossed the center line and struck the northbound Volvo SUV.
Charges are pending the completion of the investigation, according to the Highway Patrol.
