Jersey City, NJ : Route 9 reopens in Old Bridge after 20-hour closure from crash, downed wires on Sunday, December 4th, 2016
Route 9 reopened in Old Bridge on Sunday night nearly 20 hours after a chain-reaction crash knocked down power lines that blocked the road in both directions and jammed traffic in the area.Off. Michael Krzywdzinski of the Old Bridge Police said the roadway reopened shortly after 7 p.m.
The road was closed late Saturday night after two vehicles collided in the southbound lanes near an NJ Transit park-and -ride lot, police said.
One of the two cars knocked down a utility pole, causing wires to hang low over the northbound lanes, police said.
A tractor-trailer and box truck ran into the wires, dragging them along the highway and pulling down three more utility poles, police said.
Police said no one was badly hurt. The repair work to the downed wires, however, was extensive and took hours to complete.
