Hillsboro man arrested for DWI after collision kills motorcyclist, injures passenger

A motorcyclist was killed Wednesday night and his passenger was seriously injured when an oncoming car turned into the path of the motorcycle on a two-lane highway, police say.The driver of the car was arrested on suspicion of DWI and manslaughter, police say.The motorcyclist, Thomas Bryant, 32, of Hillsboro, died at the scene of the crash. Bryant had been driving a 2002 Yamaha YZFR1 on Old Highway 21 at Lake Lorraine Road about 10:25 p.m. when he collided with the car.A woman riding on his motorcycle, Danielle J. Cole, 21, of Imperial, was seriously injured. She was taken by medical helicopter to Mercy Hospital St. Louis in Creve Coeur.The Missouri Highway Patrol said a 2010 Pontiac G6 was traveling south on Old Highway 21 when the driver tried to make a left turn onto Lake Lorraine Road, pulling into the path of the northbound motorcycle. Bryant and Cole were thrown from the motorcycle.The driver of the Pontiac was James E. Werner, 64, of Hillsboro. The Highway Patrol arrest report shows that Werner was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, involuntary manslaughter and second-degree assault.The patrol said Werner was not injured in the crash. He was being held in the Jefferson County Jail, police say.
