Chicago, IL : 2 dead, 1 seriously injured in Bishop Ford crash on Monday, 9th April 2018
Two people were killed and a third person was seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash Monday afternoon on Interstate 94 near 159th Street, according to the Illinois State Police.
Edward Robinson, 58, of Chicago, and Charlene Robinson, 93, were in the same car and died in the crash that took place near South Holland, according to a news release from state police.
Edward Robinson was driving a gray Pontiac sedan about 12:20 p.m. Monday in the northbound lanes of the Bishop Ford Freeway when he began to change from the middle lane to the right lane. That’s when the driver of a black GMC SUV that had been behind the Pontiac rear-ended ite Pontiac , police said.
The impact of the crash caused the Pontiac to be pushed into the far right concrete wall, causing the people inside the sedan to become trapped, police said.
Charlene Robinson, the rear seat passenger of the Pontiac, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. Edward Robinson was taken to Franciscan Health Hammond in Indiana, where he was pronounced dead. A third person inside the Pontiac, a 46-year-old woman from Houston, was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in serious condition.
There were two adults and a 3-year-old girl inside the GMC SUV who were not injured, police said. All three were from Hobart, Ind.
It’s unknown if drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash, according to state police. The crashclosed lanes for about three hours Monday.
