Wellesley, MA : Wellesley man faces third OUI after Natick crash on Monday, June 19, 2017
A Wellesley man faces his third drunken driving charge after police say he crashed into another car and a crosswalk signal on Monday in Natick.
Natick Police arrested Robert E. Cunniff III, 57, after the 7:37 p.m. crash at Speen Street and Kylie Lane.
Police found Cunniff next to his heavily damaged Jeep Cherokee and a woman next to a damaged GMC Arcadia, police wrote in a report filed in Natick District Court on Tuesday.
“As I approached them, Cunniff came toward me and stated, ‘I think we’re all set,‘” police wrote in the report.’
Officers told Cunniff they weren’t all set because Cunniff’s Jeep was heavily damaged and could not be driven. Cunniff was surprised by the amount of damage, police wrote.
Cunniff’s breath smelled of alcohol. He blamed the driver of the GMC Arcadia for coming to a sudden stop.
However, the woman told police she was driving slowly when she heard a loud crash behind her. Cunniff had driven his Jeep up over the curb and knocked down a crosswalk signal and then sideswiped her SUV.
