A Virginia man is dead after after a single-vehicle accident in Monroe County near Union Thursday afternoon.

Monroe County Sheriff Kenneth Hedrick said Paul Dean Martin, 63, of Ripplemead, Va., overturned his truck in a curve around 3:15 p.m. on U.S. 219 in Union near the Fullen Road intersection.

Hedrick said the Union Rescue Squad and Union Volunteer Fire Department had to extract Martin from his vehicle.

Martin died while being transported via helicopter to a hospital in Roanoke, Va.

Hedrick said deputies are unsure of the cause of the accident, but the incident remains under investigation.
