Winona, MN : Girl injured after bike crash in west Winona Tuesday evening, July 26, 2016
A child suffered minor injuries Tuesday evening on west Broadway when she was struck by a car after apparently riding into the street.
The young girl, whose name and age were not released, was riding her bike near the intersection of Broadway and Hilbert street shortly before 6 p.m. when she rode her bike into a passing truck and crashed.
The girl was talking and moving as police and medical personnel loaded her onto a stretcher and into an ambulance. She was transported to Winona Health, complaining of back and leg pain.
Winona resident Gerry Thrune, the driver of the truck, said the girl struck the side of his vehicle around the front fender.
“She was coming up the sidewalk,” he said, “and I guess you would call it a sideswipe.”
Tim Stark was also driving through the intersection at the time of the accident. “She almost hit me,” he said. “I’m just glad she’s talking. It looked like the bike took the brunt of the hit.”
