Tooele, UT : One person killed and another seriously injured in a crash on I-80 in Tooele County on Sunday morning, January 3, 2016

Police are continuing to investigate an early morning crash in Tooele County that left one person dead and another individual seriously injured.

The crash happened at 5:28 a.m. Sunday in the eastbound lanes of I-80 after the car apparently encountered mechanical issues and was stopped in the right lane. The Utah Highway Patrol said the car was struck from behind by a pickup, instantly killing the driver in the car, Refugio Ramirez, 30 from West Valley City.The passenger, a female, was flown to Intermountain Medical Center in serious condition.

None of the occupants in the pickup were injured, but witnesses told officers both occupants of the car were ejected on impact.
