ELKHART, IN : A fatal accident on Cassopolis Street on Friday, August 11, 2017
The Elkhart Police and Fire Department were called to a fatal accident on Cassopolis Street Friday morning involving a single vehicle, a mini-van.
Sgt. Chris Snyder of the Elkhart Police Department who was on scene, said, “The vehicle was traveling South bond on Cassopolis St. just North of Crawford. When it left the roadway it stuck a fire hydrate and a utility pole, and the pole had been knocked over.”
The van rolled over onto its side.
When the police and EMS arrived on the scene they had to force entry into the vehicle. Once inside, the 59-year-old male was pronounced deceased, according to Snyder.
There was only one person inside the vehicle at the time of the crash. The victim's name is not being released at this time pending notification of the family.
“Right now we are thinking that maybe there was something medical that led to him crashing,” stated Snyder.
There is no suspicion of drugs or alcohol to be a factor of the crash.
The coroner was on the scene to determine the cause of the crash, and the age of the individual.
