GUERNEVILLE, CA : UC Berkeley chief counsel killed in hit-and-run while biking on Sunday, August 27, 2017
Officials say the chief counsel for the University of California, Berkeley was killed while cycling by a driver who fled.
Sonoma County’s coroner said Monday that 59-year-old Christopher Patti died immediately when he was hit Sunday morning on the side of a highway in Guerneville (GURN’-vihl).
The California Highway Patrol says that officers on Monday are looking for the driver of the black BMW who didn’t stop after hitting Patti.
Witnesses tell officers that Patti had stopped on his bicycle and was standing about 20 feet off the road when the driver of the BMW apparently lost control and ran into him.
UC Berkeley said in a statement that Patti had a wife and two sons.
Chancellor Carol Christ says Patti was smart and compassionate, and the campus is grief-stricken.
