SAN ANTONIO, TX : 18-wheeler catches fire after crashing into construction zone along I-10 on East Side on Friday, 12th March 2021

The aftermath of an 18-wheeler fire caused long delays on Interstate 10 on the East Side as crews cleared the scene Friday morning.

San Antonio police said the incident began around 4:15 a.m. Friday when the driver of a big rig crashed into a construction zone in the median of I-10 near Foster Road.

The driver told KSAT that he was unable to see the road because it was too dark. After the crash, the cab of the big rig caught on fire but the driver was able to safely escape.

The cab of the truck appeared to have fully melted, and the trailer spilled its load of rebar.

SAPD said jersey barriers, debris, oil and diesel also spilled onto the main lanes of eastbound I-10.
