Danube,. N.Y : Thruway worker struck, killed by vehicle in central New York on Friday, October 28, 2016
Authorities say a Thruway maintenance worker has been hit by a vehicle and killed while helping out at an accident scene on a central New York highway.
State police say Friday that 58-year-old Ronald Deming and other workers were removing a vehicle damaged in an accident from the shoulder of Interstate 90 when a passing SUV sideswiped one of their tow trucks and then hit Deming.
They say the crash happened around 8:15 a.m. Friday between Exit 30 and Exit 29A in the southern Herkimer County town of Danube, about 60 miles northwest of Albany.
The eastbound lanes have been reopened after being closed while troopers investigated. The SUV driver and passenger suffered minor injuries. No charges have been filed.
Deming was a heavy construction equipment operator in the Thruway’s Syracuse Division.
