Grand Island, NE : Two injured in motorcycle accident at Five Points on Friday night, December 30, 2016
Two people were transported to CHI Health St. Francis after a motorcycle accident Friday night. The accident happened at Broadwell Avenue and State Street, at the Five Points intersection, at about 9:20 p.m., the Grand Island Police Department said.
A 2011 Ford Ranger pickup driven by Keri Blackler, 20, of Kearney was going southbound on Broadwell Avenue and was going to turn left on State Street. Officer Phouk Manivong said the motorcycle was northbound on Eddy Street, entering the Five Points intersection. Manivong said both the motorcycle and pickup had a green light, but the pickup driver didn’t see the motorcycle.
Two ambulances were called to the scene and the intersection was closed for about a half-hour.
“We closed down Five Points completely,” Grand Island Fire Department Battalion Chief Bryan Stutzman said.
Blackler was cited for failure to yield the right of way. Manivong said Blackler was shaken up, but wasn’t injured or transported.
The motorcycle driver, David Borgheiinck, 40, of Grand Island and his passenger, Carey Roy, 42, were both transported with serious injuries. Manivong said Borgheiinck and Roy were both wearing helmets.
