Davis, CA : 11-year-old boy died on April, Thursday 13th 2017
An 11-year-old boy died Thursday in a rear-end collision on southbound Interstate 5 near Woodland, the California Highway Patrol reported.
Officer Rodney Fitzhugh said the boy was a passenger in a Ford that was struck from behind at about 4:50 p.m. by a GMC whose driver, 35-year-old Caleb Cobb Huiskens of Grass Valley, failed to stop his vehicle in time to avoid colliding with traffic that had come to a stop in front of him.
The GMC also rear-ended a Honda after hitting the Ford, Fitzhugh said.
Three passengers in the Ford — two boys ages 11 and 13 and 25-year-old Rocio Garcia, all of Woodland — were transported to the UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento, where the boy succumbed to his injuries, Fitzhugh said. Both Garcia and the elder boy’s wounds were described as minor.
Coroner’s officials had not released the younger boy’s name as of Friday afternoon.
Neither alcohol nor drugs were factors in the crashes, which remain under investigation, Fitzhugh said. Anyone with information about the incident is urged to call the Woodland CHP at 530-662-4685.
