A four-month-old boy died Friday afternoon when the vehicle in which he was a passenger was hit by a truck at a Plant City intersection, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said.
Rodrigo Modesto died shortly after being rushed to South Florida Baptist Hospital in Plant City, deputies said.
Modesto was a passenger along with two other children in the back seat of a 2007 Hyundai Sonata driven by 27-year-old Marlene Gomez Rosales of Plant City, deputies said.
According to deputies, Rosales was driving north on Wiggins Road at 4:15 p.m. Friday when 21-year-old Peter Tan of Orlando, driving a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck on Kirkland Road, violated the right of way and drove int the path of the Hyundai, deputies said.
Rosales steered to the left to avoid the pickup truck, but struck its left-rear panel, deputies said.
Rosales, a 6-year-old girl and a 3-year-old boy were taken to Tampa General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, deputies said.
Neither alcohol nor drugs are suspected of contributing to this crash and no charges are currently pending, deputies said.
