FAIRFIELD, VT : 7-year-old child killed in tractor rollover accident in Vermont on July, Friday 28th 2017

Vermont State Police are investigating after a 7-year-old child was killed in a tractor rollover incident in Fairfield, Vermont, Friday.

Authorities were called to a farm in Fairfield around 1:10 p.m. after police received a call stating that a young child had become trapped inside a rolled over tractor.

Police say investigation revealed that a man had been using the tractor to transport a manure tanker, and that the child had been a passenger in the vehicle's cab. Police believe the tanker rolled when the tractor encountered steep terrain, which subsequently caused the vehicle to roll over.

The man piloting the tractor was able to extricate himself from the wreck but, despite attempting to free the child, was unable to, police said.

The child was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The man was subsequently taken to the Northwestern Medical Center by AmCare Rescue, where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries, police said.

The identity of the child as well as the man have not been made public at this time.
