Milwaukee, WI : 14-year-old passenger died after a crash in the 2400 block of S. 35th St. on Sunday evening, Nov 8, 2015

Police have arrested a 14-year-old girl who was behind the wheel of a car that crashed into a tree, killing a 14-year-old passenger Sunday evening in the 2400 block of S. 35th St.

The unnamed driver faces a potential charge of causing death while driving without a license. The 2003 GMC Envoy involved in the crash belonged to the family of one of the passengers, police said in a news release Monday.

The 14-year-old girl killed in the crash was Zaira S. Tellez, police said. She was a student at St. Anthony's school, and an autopsy is scheduled for Monday, the medical examiner's office said.

Police said the 14-year-old driver was traveling north on S. 35th St. at a high rate of speed when she lost control and hit a tree. Tellez, who was sitting behind the driver, was thrown from the vehicle. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver and two other passengers, a 15-year-old boy and a 15-year-old girl, were all taken to a hospital for treatment of injuries but were expected to survive.
