Monterey, TN : Driver killed after vehicle becomes submerged in flash flood near the Cumberland-Putnam County line on Thursday nigth, July 2, 2015

One person has been killed after a vehicle was washed off a flooded road near the Cumberland-Putnam County line during Thursday night’s storms.

Officials said part of George Branch Drive near Monterey was washed out between Dripping Springs Road and Jim Garrett Road.

Putnam County EMA spokesperson Brandon Smith said the vehicle was partially submerged for a significant amount of time before crews could safely get to the driver.

By the time they got there, it was too late.
