Bloomfield, NM : Two people injured in crash on U.S. Highway 550 south of Bloomfield on Tuesday evening, October 21, 2014

New Mexico State Police are investigating a two-vehicle crash that occurred Tuesday afternoon just south of Bloomfield on U.S. Highway 550. State Police Lt. Emmanuel Gutierrez said the preliminary investigation indicated a vehicle driving south on U.S. Highway 550 was rear-ended by a second vehicle. The first vehicle had pulled over on the road's shoulder near the intersection of U.S. Highway 550 and County Road 5500 when it was struck, Gutierrez said. Two people were thrown from the first vehicle upon impact. Gutierrez said they were transported to San Juan Regional Medical Center and were in critical condition. Gutierrez said alcohol appears to be a contributing factor in the crash, but the incident remains under investigation.
