A high school student in the Grand Rapids area has died after losing control of her car and crashing into a tree.
A passenger suffered a broken leg in the crash early Friday night in Kent County's Byron Township.
Seventeen-year-old Victoria Garraus died. She was a student at Byron Center High School, southwest of Grand Rapids.
The sheriff's department says Garraus lost control of a 2002 Kia Rio before it struck a tree. Alcohol was not a factor. The 17-year-old passenger is a student at Byron Center High.
