BAY POINT, CA : Car chase ends in crash, arrest on Sunday, January 1st 2017
Sheriff’s deputies arrested a 26-year-old man who led authorities on a brief car chase Friday that ended in a crash, a spokesman for the department said Saturday.
Sonora resident George Sepulveda was arrested on suspicion of felony charges of evading deputies, causing injury while evading deputies and a hit-and-run, said Jimmy Lee, a spokesman for the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office.
A sheriff’s sergeant was on patrol in Bay Point at about 12:30 p.m. when he attempted to stop the driver of a Honda Accord, later identified as Sepulveda, Lee said. Sepulveda did not stop for the sergeant, but instead, drove erratically while leading the deputy on a short pursuit in the area of Bailey Road and Highway 4, according to Lee.
Lee said Sepulveda then drove the wrong-way down the westbound Highway 4 off-ramp at Bailey Road and shortly thereafter crashed his car.
Sepulveda then ran from the car, but deputies soon caught up to him, Lee said.
Sepulveda was booked in the Martinez Detention Facility without bail. Lee said Sepulveda also had three warrants for his arrest on suspicion of possessing a stolen vehicle, hit-and-run and possessing drugs.
