Mississippi man dies in overnight 5-car crash in Cape Girardeau
A Mississippi man is dead after an overnight crash involving five vehicles in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.The Cape Girardeau Police Department says the crash occurred at mile marker 90 on Interstate 55 southbound shortly before 1:30 a.m. Friday. Police say a white Jeep Liberty pulled to the right side of the highway and stopped. A green Chevrolet Monte Carlo then spun into the barrier cables before coming to a stop.The driver of the Monte Carlo, a 24-year-old Mississippi man, exited his vehicle and was hit by a Hyundai Santa Fe, which then hit the Monte Carlo. Two other vehicles also struck the Monte Carlo before the scene could be cleared.The driver of the Monte Carlo, whose name has not been released, was pronounced dead a short time later. Only one other minor injury was reported.The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
