MONTGOMERY COUNTY, VA: Driver taken to hospital after I-81 double tractor trailer crash with hazmat spill on Monday, 23rd October 2023

A double tractor trailer crash Monday night sent one driver to the hospital from the incident on I-81, rescue crews said, and the following cleanup took all night.

The Montgomery County Fire-EMS Department said around 9:30 p.m. the Christiansburg Volunteer Fire Dept. and Christiansburg Rescue were dispatched to Interstate 81 South for a crash involving two tractor trailers with a possible hazmat spill.

Crews first arriving found the tractor trailers lying on the roadway and shoulder along with several barrels and other containers.
