ROCKY RIVER, OH : Fundraiser held for Magnificat HS sisters who were seriously injured in a crash on Sunday, 16th October 2016

Two Magnificat High School students, seriously injured in a crash where texting and driving are believed to have played a role, are improving. That's according to the school's president. The news comes as the school held a fundraiser Sunday to help the family with the girls' medical expenses.

Magnificat President Jennifer Halliday said 16-year-old Sierra Barr is out of rehabilitation and plans to return to school this week. Her 17-year-old sister Sophia Barr is still in a rehabilitation center and will need significant time to fully recover. But she said she has made improvements over the past month.

The single-car crash also injured three other teens who were in the car with the Barr sisters. Their conditions are unknown. No one was wearing a seatbelt at the time.

The crash happened Saturday, September 10th on Valley Parkway in the Rocky River Reservation. In a crash report, park rangers said Sophia was distracted by texting when she veered off the road and hit a rock. That caused the car to overturn.

Donations for the Barr family are also being accepted at any local KeyBank location.
