Fallsburg, NY : Eight people injured in a three-car accident on Route 42 on Sullivan County road Thursday afternoon, July 2, 2015

Police say eight people have been injured in a three-car crash on an upstate New York road.

The Times Herald-Record of Middletown reports it happened Thursday afternoon on Route 42 between Fallsburg and Monticello in Sullivan County.

Police say it started when a Mercedes ran into the back of an Acura that was turning left. The Acura was pushed into the opposite lane, where it hit a minivan. Six people in the minivan were hurt along with one person in each of the two cars.

Fallsburg police say two helicopters airlifted two patients to Westchester Medical Center.

Police didn't say how badly the victims were hurt.

The accident halted traffic for about an hour.
