BIG POOL, MD : Allegany County man killed in I-70 crash on Tuesday, 8th November 2016

A single-car crash on Interstate 70 near the 14-mile marker Tuesday evening claimed the life of an Allegany County man and closed the westbound lanes for about 45 minutes, according to Maryland State Police.

Ronald Ellwood Devore, 69, of La Vale died at Meritus Medical Center, state police said in a news release.

When troopers arrived, a Subaru Forester was found overturned in the median. It was determined that the vehicle went down an embankment, struck a tree and overturned, police said.

Linda Jane Devore, 68, Devore's wife, was also transported to Meritus Medical Center, where she was treated for injuries that were not life- threatening, police said.

Authorities were planning to send a helicopter to the scene of the crash, which was reported at 6:32 p.m., but it was canceled.
