One Dead, One Injured in Dallas Iowa

One person is dead after a car ran off the road in Dallas County late Tuesday night.A passenger was also hurt and was able to give investigators some clues as to how the accident may have happened.Someone walking their dog called in the crash just before midnight after he came upon the car. It was just inside the city limits of Minburn on F-31.The Dallas County Sheriff’s Office says it appears the driver, 34-year-old Nakia Williams of Adel, did not see a turn and went off the road.Sgt. Corey Champlin with the Iowa State Patrol says Williams already deceased when they arrived. The passenger, 32-year-old Justin Merical, was transferred to Mercy by air ambulance. He is listed in fair condition.The sheriff’s office says the passenger told them the driver may have fallen asleep. Sgt. Champlin says it appears alcohol was not a factor in the crash and says it’s not yet clear if speed was a factor.“For whatever reason they failed to negotiate a curve. Drove off the curve and struck a tree,” says Sgt. Champlin.There were no skid marks on the road to indicate the driver tried to break before he left the road.The accident remains under investigation.
